Terms and conditions
Last updated 7 October 2026
These terms apply when you ask CV Scrap Cars & Recovery ("we", "us") for a quote or sell us a vehicle. Please read them before we collect. Nothing in these terms affects your legal rights.
1. About us
CV Scrap Cars & Recovery (also known as CV Vehicle Recycling) is a scrap car buyer based in Atherstone, Warwickshire CV9 2AR, registered with the Environment Agency as a waste carrier, number CBDU637669. Contact us on 07823 389 635 or info@cvscrapcars.co.uk.
2. Quotes
- A quote is our offer to buy your vehicle. It's free and there's no obligation to accept it.
- We base it on the information you give us, such as the registration, the condition of the vehicle and whether it has all its parts. Please be accurate, because the price depends on it.
- A quote is valid for 7 days unless we tell you otherwise, because scrap metal prices change.
3. The price we quote is the price we pay
When we arrive, we'll check the vehicle matches what you told us. If it does, we pay the price we quoted. We will not lower it at the door. There are no hidden fees: collection, admin and paperwork are free, and nothing is deducted from the price we quoted.
If the vehicle is materially different from your description, for example parts are missing (such as the engine, gearbox, catalytic converter, wheels or battery), the damage is worse than described or the details don't match, we'll explain why and offer a revised price. You're free to say no, and there's nothing to pay if you do.
4. Your right to sell the vehicle
- You must be the registered keeper, or have the registered keeper's written permission to sell.
- The vehicle must be yours to sell. If there is outstanding finance on it, it belongs to the finance company until that is paid off, so we can't buy it until the finance is settled.
- We may check the vehicle against stolen, finance and write-off records before we buy.
5. Identity checks
The Scrap Metal Dealers Act 2013 requires us to check your full name and address before we buy. Please have photo ID (such as a driving licence or passport) and a recent proof of address (such as a utility bill or bank statement) ready. We keep a record of these checks, as the law requires. If we can't verify them, we can't complete the purchase.
6. Documents and the DVLA
- Please have the vehicle's logbook (V5C) ready. If it's lost, we'll complete a bill of sale with you instead.
- We'll tell the DVLA about the sale with you before we leave, so you receive the DVLA's confirmation straight away.
- The DVLA refunds any full months of remaining vehicle tax automatically once it has been told. Remember to cancel your insurance.
7. Payment
We pay by bank transfer, into a UK bank account in the seller's name, before we leave with the vehicle. The law does not allow scrap metal dealers to pay in cash, so we never do.
8. Collection
- We collect 7 days a week, and collection is free within 20 miles of Atherstone. If you're further away, we'll tell you about any cost before we book.
- We need safe access to the vehicle for our recovery truck. Please tell us about anything that might get in the way, such as a narrow lane, a locked gate or flat tyres. If we can't reach the vehicle safely, we'll arrange another time.
- Someone aged 18 or over who can show the ID in section 5 needs to be there when we collect.
9. Before we collect
- Please remove all personal belongings. We'll return anything we find if we reasonably can, but we can't be responsible for items left in the vehicle.
- If the vehicle has a private number plate you want to keep, you must transfer or retain it with the DVLA before the sale. Once we've collected the vehicle, we can't return the plate.
10. What happens to your vehicle
If your vehicle is scrapped, it goes to an Authorised Treatment Facility, which dismantles it to environmental standards and issues a Certificate of Destruction to the DVLA. Some vehicles are repaired or sold for parts instead. Either way, once the DVLA has been told about the sale, you are no longer the keeper.
From the moment we collect the vehicle, we are responsible for it. If you receive a parking or traffic notice for something that happened after we collected it, send it to us and we'll deal with it.
11. Changing your mind
You can change your mind at any time before we pay you. Once we have paid and the DVLA has been told about the sale, the sale is final.
12. Our responsibility to you
We'll carry out our service with reasonable care and skill. Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot be limited by law.
13. Complaints
If something isn't right, please call or email us and we'll do our best to sort it out. We aim to reply to complaints within 14 days.
14. The law
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales.
