Privacy policy

Last updated 7 October 2026

This policy explains what personal information we collect when you ask us for a quote or sell us a vehicle, why we need it, who we share it with and how long we keep it. It also explains your rights and how to use them.

1. Who we are

CV Scrap Cars & Recovery (also known as CV Vehicle Recycling) is a scrap car buyer based in Atherstone, Warwickshire CV9 2AR. We are the controller of the personal information described here, which means we decide how it is used.

You can contact us about anything in this policy by phone or text on 07823 389 635 or by email at info@cvscrapcars.co.uk.

2. What we collect

When you ask for a quote

  • The vehicle registration and the postcode where the vehicle is.
  • What you tell us about the vehicle, for example whether it drives, any damage and whether you have the logbook (V5C).
  • Your name and phone number, so we can send you a price, and your email address if you choose to give it.
  • Which version of our web page you used, so we can tell which one works best.
  • Anything you send us by phone, text, email or WhatsApp, including photos of the vehicle.

When we buy your vehicle

  • Your full name and address, checked against photo ID and proof of address. The Scrap Metal Dealers Act 2013 requires us to verify these and keep a record before we can buy a vehicle.
  • The vehicle's details and logbook (V5C) details, or a signed bill of sale if the logbook is missing.
  • Your bank details, so we can pay you by bank transfer.

4. Who we share it with

  • The DVLA, when we update the vehicle record with you.
  • The Authorised Treatment Facility we use, which dismantles scrapped vehicles and issues the Certificate of Destruction.
  • The police and the local council, who are entitled by law to inspect our records, and anyone else we are legally required to share information with.
  • Companies that provide services to us, such as our website host (Vercel), Corem8 (the system we use to receive and manage quote requests), and our accountant. They may only use your information to provide those services.
  • Google, for website statistics and measuring our adverts, as described in the cookies section.
  • WhatsApp (Meta), only if you choose to message us there. Their own privacy policy applies to how they handle your messages.

Some of these providers, including our website host, may process information outside the UK. When they do, we rely on UK adequacy regulations or the contract clauses approved by the Information Commissioner to keep it protected.

5. How long we keep it

  • Quote requests that don't lead to a sale: 12 months, then deleted.
  • Records of vehicles we buy, including the identity checks: three years, as the Scrap Metal Dealers Act 2013 requires.
  • Accounting and tax records: six years.
  • Messages and photos you send us: until the quote or sale is finished, then deleted unless they form part of the records above.

6. Your rights

You have the right to:

  • ask for a copy of the information we hold about you;
  • ask us to correct anything that is wrong or incomplete;
  • ask us to delete your information, where we don't need to keep it by law;
  • ask us to restrict how we use it, or object to us using it;
  • ask us to transfer information you gave us to another organisation.

To use any of these rights, contact us using the details in section 1. We'll reply within one month. It's free unless a request is clearly unfounded or excessive.

If you're unhappy with how we've handled your information, please tell us first so we can put it right. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.

7. Cookies and visit tracking

When you first visit, we ask whether you're happy for us to use optional cookies. You can change your answer at any time.

  • Strictly necessary. Your cookie choice is remembered in your browser (cv_consent_v1). When we test which version of a page works best, one cookie (cv_lp) keeps you on the same version for 30 days.
  • Analytics and marketing (Google Analytics, Google Ads). These only store cookies on your device if you accept them. If you don't, Google's tags still send limited signals with no cookies and with advert click details removed, so we can count visits and enquiries in total without identifying you.
  • Our quote system, Corem8, notes how you arrived (the page you landed on, the site that sent you and any advert link you clicked) once per visit, without storing anything on your device and without recording your IP address. If you accept marketing cookies, it also keeps an anonymous visitor number so it can recognise a return visit.

8. Changes to this policy

We'll update this page if the way we use personal information changes. The date at the top shows when it was last updated.
